The different types of tests for hepatitis C virus

  • Hepatitis C Antibody Test, HCV Ab, Anti-HCV Test or Viral Hepatitis C Antibody Screen (ELISA) are the same. Also called a “qualitative antibody” test.   • ALT – stands for alanine transaminase. It is part of the general liver function test. If high, it means there is an issue with the liver but the cause is not necessarily Hepatitis C. Very often this routine test show something is going on with the liver and can be the first step to discovering the presence of the hepatitis C virus.
